san francisco is moribund

St. Patrick's Day is nigh, so that means that SF will be partying. What else is new.
Coming from L.A., I believed the old hype about SF being more sophisticated. But that is not so. SF is not sophisticated. What passes as class is really just blase cluelessness.
sorry to be so harsh to america's favorite city, but america is lost.
Joel Kotkin wrote on his blog and in the NY Times about the role of "Finance" in the routing of the middle class from the city: "San Francisco...is more narcissistic than NYC and has no aspirational culture. ...It is not just finance but it is 'trustafarians'-the 'beneficiaries' of the upper classes- (the retail, labor, students and servants) - who make San Francisco oddly neo-Victorian. " New York will never succumb to this fate because "there are just not enough rich people willing to pay a fortune to live in Bayside..."
Dickensian is the only word for the neighborhood where I live. Yes, cobblestones and moonbeams may be in evidence in the Marina district, but in most parts of this city, Fagin would be eaten alive.
