12% unemployment and a new police chief

more people are sleeping on the street lately. this street was trying to gentrify-just half a block off of one of SF's "skid row" streets and a few blocks from the official "tenderloin". the new police chief has made it known that there is a crackdown on the tenderloin, so it is hard to tell if this influx of unfortunates are the result of the tenderloin squeeze by police or due to the severe 12% plus unemployment rate. The last few months have seen a real increase in graffiti, and not the creative kind, but the tagging kind. The 24 hour parking lots on the street used to be manned round the clock- giving us de facto neighborhood watchmen- but these jobs have been eliminated also.
