Nana's peach tart

finally i bought something at the famous ferry building farmer's market, after weeks and months of checking it out. This peach had the fragrance of summer sunshine, but alas not that much flavor. But isn't it pretty?
Nothing could ever compare to my childhood memory of Nana's sideyard peach tree tarts. Her husband, my Popop, would go out each morning and pick the fruit for her daily made pies. Tart apple and peach tarts with home made crust. She made 3-6 pies everyday, including milk custard and brown sugar butter tarts. Nana also made crumb coffeecake everyday for breakfast. Lunch was the big meal, for which Popop would go out back and dig up potatoes, pick ears of corn off the stalk, and pick tomatoes. Nana would make a feast of fresh boiled corn, potatoes, and carrots, served with tomatoes sliced with vinegar, sprinkled with a little sugar, salt and pepper. There would be German summer sausage, Nana's fresh jarred corn relish, cucumber pickles, fresh cabbage slaw, fresh pickeled beets, and peach relish. For dessert your choice of fruit or custard tart.
There is no way to match the memory of Nana's meals served to one and all (from the roof repairman who happened to be working there that day, to her own grandchildren and neighbors) with an abundance and a generosity of spirit despite very modest means.
