sometimes i miss socal and it usually revolves around food. and maybe weather, i hate to say it. the light balmy air there is sometimes. but maybe it's just that now i live a half block from skidrow and having read "The Road" recently, i felt like, yeah so what that is just a description of the neighborhood, altho we do not have cannibalism at this time to my knowledge. but the shopping cart life is all here. plastic tarps in the rain and boxes for shelter, my neighborhood.
so in comparison, socal starts to feel good.
i cant remember the name of my organic coffee place anymore where they made vanilla, honey soy lattes and people of every celebrity striving status crammed into the place trying to look famous...
(Urth cafe in west hollywwood)or there was the city bakery in the brentwood country mart where they had great bagels and soy lattes -a hard combo to find...(don't get me started about Canters on Fairfax) you could sit outdoors in the company of wealthy people and their dogs and it was brentwood's version of cleaned up, sleeked up quaint.
but i have only given sf one year, i think i need to give it more..i do go to blue bottle coffee but there is no celebrity buzz, instead it is just the buzz of rich young hip people in understated expensive hip clothing and why is that more interesting? but a locale is just a locale and this one is special because my daughter lives here.
