Yes, my friend, the duke or the dauphin?

Reflecting on McCain's used car salesman overuse of the phrase "my friends", it brings to mind the comical con men of Huck Finn's adventure, the ones who sold tickets to Romeo and Juliet, advertised themselves as the great London Shakespearean company but proved no shows after taking the money and running.
Melville wrote "The Confidence Man"in 1857, and it to takes on the subject of the American con man. It's a tired old story. Here we have our snake oil salesman once again = John McCain and his assistant, Sarah.

"Yes, my friend, it is too true - your eyes is lookin' at this very moment on the pore disappeared Dauphin, Looy the Seventeen, son of Looy the Sixteen and Marry Antonette."

From Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
